Asbestos
You may be surprised where you can find asbestos in your home. Some of the common places where asbestos can be found are floor tiles, toilet cisterns, boxing, soil pipes and panels, and textured coatings (such as Artex). We never recommend drilling, sanding or smashing any of the above and we also recommend that you wear personal safety equipment when carrying out any DIY to your home. We hold a register which tells us where asbestos can be found in the homes we own so if you are in any doubt about carrying out works to your home please contact us and we will be pleased to give you advice.
Smoke detectors
Each year we service smoke detectors in our homes, however, it is important that every month you check the batteries in your smoke detectors are still working. If for any reason the smoke detector is missing from your property please contact us on freephone 0800 169 5686 and we will give you a replacement.
Lighting
We understand that the standard fittings in your home may not be to your taste. We always recommend light fittings should only be replaced by a qualified and competent electrician. To check your electrician is qualified to carry out works to your home ask to see their NICEIC, ECA (or similar) certificate.
Extension leads
Extension leads can be hazardous not only if overloaded by items such as kettles, heaters, hair dryers (or any appliance that has an element) etc. but also as a trip hazard. Always remember to unravel your lead as it can cause a fire.
Cookers
You should keep items at least 150mm from the vertical edge of the cooker unless the item is specifically designed for a purpose such as a cooker hood. We recommend that you always read the instructions that come with your cooker and remember that any gas cookers should be fitted by a CORGI registered plumber.
Toxic substances
Take care when storing toxic substances as some substances when stored together can be hazardous. Always read caution labels available and keep hazardous substances locked away and out of the reach of children.
Windows
We can install window restrictors for any bedroom at first floor level and above free of charge. Please contact us if you want to find out more.
